Prairie Diagnostic Services Inc. (PDS) is a non-profit organization which provides your local veterinarian, university and government researchers and the Saskatchewan livestock industry with veterinary diagnostic testing services. These services are crucial to the delivery of veterinary care to both our pet and livestock species, and to the monitoring of the health of wildlife in Saskatchewan and Western Canada.

Here are some examples of the services that PDS provides:

If you take your pet to your veterinarian, and they diagnose an infection, they may send a specimen for bacterial culture to PDS. The results of this test can tell your veterinarian what caused the infection, and which medications are best to treat it. Proper use of medications by veterinarians is facilitated by the use of these kinds of tests.

If you are a farmer with a health problem in your livestock, your veterinarian may take tissue samples to submit to the lab for tests such as histopathology, which can help determine exactly what disease is happening in your herd. This will guide plans for treatment and future prevention of the problem, which can save the farmer thousands of dollars, and improve future care of his livestock.

Researchers and clinicians from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine and the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture make extensive use of PDS in projects which facilitate teaching future veterinary and animal science students, and contribute to the base of knowledge about domestic animal production and the health of wild animal populations in western Canada.

PDS offers the most comprehensive range of veterinary diagnostic testing services in western Canada. It is an organization of which our province can be justifiably proud, and is continually striving to improve in all areas of testing and customer service
